Big Support for Southwest Victoria Farmers: Up to $10,000 in Grants Now Available

Drought has always been one of the most significant challenges for farmers, impacting not only crop yields and livestock but also the financial security of farming families. Recognising this, the Victorian Government has launched the Farm Drought Support Grants, offering targeted financial support to help farmers invest in resilience-building measures.

This program isn’t just about short-term relief;  it’s about helping farmers prepare for the future

What Farmers Can Access

The grants are designed to fund practical, on-the-ground improvements that make a lasting difference.

Eligible farmers can access:

Up to $5,000 (ex-GST) in co-contribution grants for:

  • Water infrastructure upgrades (pipes, tanks, troughs, dams)
  • Stock containment areas to better manage feed and grazing during dry periods
  • Grain and fodder storage facilities to safeguard feed supplies
  • NEW in 2025: Water carting and pasture re-establishment, recognising the broad challenges of drought recovery

Southwest Victoria farmers in areas like Ararat, Moyne, Colac Otway, Corangamite, Warrnambool, Greater Geelong and more may qualify for an extra $5,000 top-up — bringing the total available support to $10,000 (ex-GST).

This funding is a significant boost for farmers in regions hardest hit by dry conditions, providing capital for projects that improve water security, feed management, and long-term sustainability.

The grants are administered by Rural Finance and remain open until 30 June 2026 or until funds are fully allocated.

Why This Matters for Your Farm

This isn’t just about short-term funding — it’s about:

  • Protecting your business from future climate risks by investing in infrastructure that supports water security and feed management.
  • Improving efficiency and profitability by reducing losses during dry seasons.
  • Securing your long-term viability with assets like containment areas, storage facilities, and improved pastures that continue to deliver value well beyond the drought.

Farmers who take advantage of this grant can strengthen both their day-to-day operations and their resilience for years to come.
